In general, we recommend that you receive teeth cleanings every 6 months. But we may recommend more frequent cleanings if you have a chronic condition like periodontitis that Dr. Bandy needs to closely monitor. Getting your routine teeth cleaning is a great way to prevent cavities and other issues so you can maintain a healthy smile for life.
While you can by practicing good oral hygiene, only a skilled dental professional can remove tartar. That’s why it’s important that you see us for routine teeth cleanings and oral exams. If left untreated, plaque and tartar buildup can lead to cavities, gum disease, and other oral health issues.
First, our dental hygienist will examine your teeth and gums for any obvious issues that need to be addressed right away. If they don’t spot anything that needs immediate attention, they’ll move onto the next step of the dental cleaning.
Our hygienist will use a dental tool called a scaler to gently buildup from your teeth. Next, they’ll ask you to select a tooth polish flavor, such as mint or cinnamon. Once you’ve chosen a flavor, they’ll use the polish with a high-powered toothbrush to polish your teeth.
Once your teeth are polished, you’re in the home stretch. At this point, our hygienist will floss your teeth to remove any hidden food particles or plaque. After you rinse for the final time, you’ll be all set for Dr. Bandy to examine your teeth, gums, and any X-rays we may have taken during your appointment.
