Our dentist in Holly, Michigan, may recommend a same-day dental bridge to replace a missing tooth. A dental bridge is a prosthetic tooth that’s anchored in place by crowns on both sides. Depending on your situation, Dr. Bandy may place these crowns on top of natural teeth or dental implants.
The dental bridge procedure typically takes two visits to a dental office. But Dr. Bandy has the technology to create your dental bridge in one appointment. This saves you the inconvenience of having to make a second trip to our office to restore your smile.
Here’s what you can expect when getting a same-day dental bridge.
First, we’ll need to prepare the teeth that will receive the bridge. If Dr. Bandy is planning to place the crowns over dental implants, you’ll be able to skip this step.
To prepare your teeth, Dr. Bandy will file down and shape the enamel. The cores of your teeth will remain, which will help anchor the dental bridge in place. By removing some of your enamel, we’re able to create space for the new dental bridge.
Next, Dr. Bandy will wave a small hand-held scanner over your teeth to capture 3D images of your teeth and gums. The images will be then sent to Dr. Bandy’s computer, which will allow him to start designing your new dental bridge right in front of your eyes.
In addition to taking dental impressions, Dr. Bandy will also use a shade guide to select the perfect color for your new dental bridge. That way, your bridge will look natural and blend in with the rest of your smile. Next, Dr. Bandy will send the dental bridge design to the milling machine in our office.
The milling machine is responsible for sculpting your new dental bridge out of a solid block of ceramic. Once the machine is done creating your same-day dental bridge, Dr. Bandy will remove it and place it over your prepared teeth. At this time, he’ll ensure that the one-visit dental bridge is the proper size, shape, and color before bonding it in place.
After bonding the tooth in place, Dr. Bandy may make some final adjustments to the fit to ensure the bridge is comfortable and won’t interfere with your ability to chew. Once everything looks perfect, you’ll be able to leave our office with your brand-new smile.
Unlike other offices, we’re able to create your new same-day dental bridge in one appointment. This saves you a lot of time and hassle.
One of the main benefits of a same-day bridge is that it requires little change to your existing oral hygiene routine. Simply brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes at a time. Also, please be sure to floss your teeth to remove any hidden bacteria or food particles. The healthier your smile, the longer you can expect your dental bridge to last.
Routine visits to Bandy Dental will help you maintain good oral health for years to come. Not to mention, Dr. Bandy would be more than happy to recommend oral hygiene tips so you can get the most use out of your same-day bridge and achieve your dental health goals.
