It’s important that you call us as soon as possible if you suspect there’s something wrong with your oral health. The sooner you call, the sooner Dr. Bandy can diagnose and treat the source of your pain. For example, Dr. Bandy may recommend root canals to save abscessed teeth so you can avoid dental extraction.
When you first arrive at our office, Dr. Bandy will need to examine your teeth, gums, and other oral structures. We’ll also take X-rays in order to detect any issues that aren’t visible to the naked eye, such as cavities between teeth.
Dr. Bandy may recommend root canal therapy to restore a tooth with a deep crack or cavity that introduced bacteria into the pulp. The dental pulp is the innermost chamber of your tooth that comprises nerves and blood vessels. Once the pulp is infected, Dr. Bandy will need to remove it to prevent the infection from spreading to the rest of the body.
First, Dr. Bandy will inject a local anesthetic into the soft tissue by your tooth. He’ll also place a rubber sheet around the tooth to keep it isolated and dry during the root canal procedure.
Once you’re numb and comfortable, he’ll create a small opening at the top of the tooth and use small dental instruments to remove the infected pulp. Then, he’ll clean and sanitize the inside of your tooth.
Next, Dr. Bandy will seal the root canals and fill the empty tooth chamber with a material called gutta-percha. He’ll then take digital impressions of your teeth and create a same-day dental crown. The crown will restore your tooth to its natural strength and appearance.
