Our cosmetic dentist in Holly, Michigan, may recommend the veneers procedure for teeth with minor chips, cracks, gaps, and other minor imperfections. That way, you’ll be able to enjoy showing off your smile without doubt or self-consciousness. Compared to dental crowns and other procedures, porcelain veneers are also minimally invasive.
Here’s what you can expect during the veneers procedure.
First, you’ll need to schedule a consultation with Dr. Bandy. As a cosmetic dentist, he’ll be able to determine if you’re a candidate for porcelain veneers. Veneers are perfect for correcting teeth with minor flaws, but Dr. Bandy may recommend another procedure if your teeth have structural damage. For example, a same-day crown can restore a tooth with significant injury or decay.
The only way to know for sure if you’re a candidate for the veneers procedure is to schedule an appointment with our cosmetic dentist. Dr. Bandy will help you explore your options so you can achieve a healthier, more attractive smile.
We’ll need to prepare the front surfaces of your teeth so they’re ready to receive the veneers. To do this, Dr. Bandy will remove a thin layer of enamel from the fronts of your teeth to create the appropriate amount of space.
Next, he’ll take impressions of your teeth to send to the lab that will create your porcelain veneers. During this appointment, Dr. Bandy will also use a shade guide to ensure your new dental veneers match the rest of your smile.
While you wait for your permanent veneers, we’ll place temporary ones over your teeth. This will help protect your teeth while you’re waiting for your second appointment.
Once your veneers are ready, we’ll ask you to return to our office so Dr. Bandy can place them over your teeth and ensure your smile looks perfect. First, Dr. Bandy will need to remove your temporary veneers. He’ll then place the permanent ones over your teeth and make any slight adjustments as needed to ensure they look and feel natural.
Once your veneers are picture-perfect ready, Dr. Bandy will clean and etch the fronts of your teeth. This will help ensure that your teeth create a strong bond with the dental cement and veneers. For one of the final steps, Dr. Bandy will use an ultraviolet light to bond the veneers in place. He’ll also check your bite to ensure the veneers won’t cause any issues with chewing or teeth alignment.
The veneers procedure takes two trips to our office, but the long-lasting results are well worth the time and effort. As long as you practice good oral hygiene, you may be able to enjoy your new porcelain veneers for up to 10 years or longer.
